Born in New Zealand in 1999, Martins began her musical journey at the tender age of three. Her talent was evident early on, winning her first competition at the age of eight and making her solo debut in Bristol, England, at sixteen. Her dedication to her craft led her to pursue her studies across the globe, with formative periods in the United States, England, Germany, and Switzerland. She has honed her skills under the tutelage of renowned cellists such as Pieter Wispelwey at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf and Danjulo Ishizaka at the Musik Akademie Basel. Her debut recording, featuring the Cello Concerto by Brazilian composer Claudio Santoro with the Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra, garnered international praise from publications such as Gramophone UK, The Strad, and BBC Music Magazine. This recording has been a significant milestone in her career, showcasing her technical brilliance and deep musical understanding.

She has collaborated with a host of distinguished artists and has performed with numerous prestigious orchestras and conductors throughout Europe, the Americas, and beyond.

Marina Martins performs on a rare cello crafted by Giuseppe Guarneri “filius Andreae” around the year 1700, as well as the 2013 'ex Meneses' cello by Filippo Fasser.
