Artist Diploma

Mathilde Reuzé

Cello
France

« It doesn't matter if the scene is good or bad; what matters is that it feels sincere and truthful. » (C. Stanislavski) I try to bring the same honesty to music. Each note tells its own story, and every concert is a moment that exists only in that instant. I love discovering new repertoire and exploring the different ways music can come alive, whether on modern or baroque cello.

Biography

Born in 2001 in Le Mans into a musical family, Mathilde chose the cello at three, inspired by a performance of Bach’s Passion. She studied at the CNSMDP with Raphaël Pidoux before completing a Master’s at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel in 2025 with Rafael Rosenfeld.

Since 2022, she has also benefited from the advice of Sol Gabetta.

Specializing in historically informed performance, she studied baroque cello with Pauline Collignon and Petr Skalka, complementing her practice with musicology at the Sorbonne, organ and baroque dance.

She was notably a semi-finalist at the Bach International Wettbewerb in Leipzig on both baroque and modern cello, as well as at the Bratislava International Competition, and made her solo debut with the Kammerorchester Basel.

Her first album, Chimères, with pianist Alessandro Tardino, was released in 2025 by KNS Classical.

That year, she began a Master’s in baroque cello with Kristin von der Goltz in Munich and an Artist Diploma with Jérôme Pernoo. A member of the Schubert Promotion of the Jaroussky Academy, mentored by Anne Gastinel, she founded the Maelström Duo with pianist Kim Bernard, performing regularly at La Seine Musicale and across France.

She plays a cello made by Paolo Antonio Testore in 1731, generously loaned by a private patron.

In their own words

What does music mean to you?

For me, music is about freedom and curiosity. It’s a way to explore, try new things, and connect with other musicians and the audience.

What does studying at the Pernoo School mean to you?

Studying at the Pernoo School of Musical Performance gives me a smooth transition from my master’s to an independent professional life. The individualized coaching I receive helps me develop my skills and confidence during this crucial stage.

What are your interests or activities outside of music?

When I’m not playing the cello, I enjoy baroque dance, playing the harpsichord, Indonesian gamelan, or reading all kinds of books.
