
Fabian Sturm (*2001) is a German cellist and multiple first-prize winner at national and international competitions. His concert appearances have taken him to renowned venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. As a soloist, he has performed, among others, with the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt under the direction of Jürgen Bruns.
Fabian Sturm grew up in a family of musicians in Berlin and received his first cello lessons at the age of five. At just twelve years old, he was accepted as a junior student at the "Hanns Eisler" School of Music Berlin as well as at the Julius Stern Institute of the "Universität der Künste (UdK) Berlin.
In 2019, he began his studies with Prof. Jérôme Pernoo at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Since 2023, he has been pursuing a master’s degree with Prof. Alexey Stadler at the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater" Hamburg.
Fabian Sturm received formative musical impulses through numerous masterclasses with leading cellists and musicians, including Jens Peter Maintz, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, David Geringas, Gary Hoffmann, Menahem Pressler, Nicholas Angelich, Peter Bruns, and Thomas Grossenbacher. He has appeared at many festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Les Vacances de Monsieur Haydn in La Roche-Posay, Giovanni Sollima’s 100 Cellos in Ravenna and Lucca, and the Momentum Festival in Stolberg.
Solo and chamber music concerts have taken him to major concert halls including the Berlin Philharmonie, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Hamburg and Berlin City Hall, and the German "Bundestag". As a soloist, he has performed, among others, Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with the "Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt" under Jürgen Bruns.
His awards include several first federal prizes at Jugend musiziert (solo and chamber music), first prize at the international "Concours Flame" in Paris with the highest score across all categories, first prize at the "Märkische Musiktage" (2022), and first prize awarded by the Elise Meyer Foundation (2025).
Fabian Sturm is a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and has been supported by institutions such as the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and Live Music Now. In the 2024/2025 season, he was an academy member of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and performed as a substitute musician, among others, with the Staatskapelle Berlin.
